Artist Statement
I paint because I must. In my recent work, I portray the struggle between life, fate, nature, and humanity. The struggle I portray comes from my subconscious need to create art with some sense of balance, but with a tension that is derived from human fate.
I devise visual qualities and inspiration from the physical objects around me, whether they are from the natural world or the industrial world, and create tension within the color palette. I transfer the energy and power of color through graphite, pastels, fibers, and acrylic and manipulate the visual elements and principles of color, line, texture, movement, and pattern. The resulting variants and contrasts reflect the complexities and tension of that struggle and balance.
Over the years, my work has developed a parallel to the horizon and its inherent promise and harmony. My art has come to symbolize that connection.
